Awaken your Inner Self:
Five life-changing miracles Dr. Gil Gockley
Day 1
Structure One
Be In-love
Self-affirmations:
statements you make about yourself to yourself
I am an open-minded and inner motivated person for choosing to embark on this life-changing inner journey that generates acceptance, positive thinking, and love; and, greatly reduces judgments, negativity, and fear. I am learning life insights and knowledge for being in-love and for walking in the Light.
I am filling my life with goodness and with moments of joy.
Inspirational Reading:
You are on a remarkable inner journey learning how to live your life above the noise, nonsense, and fear-based rhetoric that so often consumes your life. You have heard it said over and over—love is the answer. For me, love is devotion, tenderness, and commitment.
Love is peaceful, gentle, and kind. It is respectful and considerate. Love listens without judgment. It radiates warmth through a myriad of gestures such as smiles, tears, laughter, and hugs.
The words I love you, when said from the heart, convey a deep and binding affection.
Through love, life perspective flourishes; you are awakened to what really matters; relationships thrive; you are more alert, thoughtful, and sensitive; your perceptions are more acute; you are more aware of your environment and the people, animals, and plants that surround your life; your life prospers simply because you are focusing on love and gratitude; life transcends beyond your wildest dreams; and, the Spirit within cultivates as a new you emerges and blossoms.
After five decades researching human potential, I am prepared and eager to share how you can gain knowledge, life insights, and wisdom for attaining love, inner peace, inner happiness, inner goodness, and inner resiliency. I am presenting, through daily inspirational readings and unique, meaningful activities, a sequential, integrated eleven-step inner process for attaining Total Wellness.
Ignorance is out! Self-awareness is in!
Anger and violence are out! Love and Light are in!
Day 14
Becoming Real
Self-affirmations
I am finding the inner strength . . .
I am finding the inner strength to become the person I want to be. I am not seeking perfection. I am seeking and realizing progress.
Inspirational Reading:
“What is real?” asked the Rabbit one day . . .
“Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”
“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you.”
“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time.
That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges,
or who have to be carefully kept (8).” (pp. 16–17)
Being real begins with knowing what you are feeling and sharing your feelings with others. Being real is being emotionally aware enough to allow yourself, your inner Self to be vulnerable, honest, and straightforward. The moment you become aware of, and name your feelings, you are automatically connecting with the real you. You are connecting with what is happening inside you. You must keep the focus on what you feel and emotionally need; and, take the focus off your negative thinking.
You recognize that your feelings belong to you. When you keep the focus on you, you share your feelings without judging or blaming others. Rather than acting out, you share what you feel. You share what is real.
Being real is a work-in-progress. It does not happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time.
As you will discover, the inner process of becoming real is more of an evolving psychological and philosophical life change rather than a specific one-time event. Over time, becoming real just happens!
Clarifying Questions:
Are you beginning to sense the inner joy of walking on an inner path for becoming real? Are you appreciating the necessity for me to repeat over-and-over again the definitions of the various steps? Are you continuing to trust this inner process that takes time, patience, and repetition for you to change from being controlled by your negative, self-protective thoughts to being in-charge of your thoughts?
Day 24
Step Four
Being Touched by the Spirit Within
Inspirational Reading:
Perhaps the most astonishing aspect of meditating is experiencing the sensation of touching and being touched by the Spirit within. I understand the
skepticism you might be feeling about my last statement. I can only tell you that meditation changed my spiritual life. It will change your spiritual life as
well.
Meditation relaxes your entire inner being. Meditation has so many marvelous benefits because after, and oftentimes during meditation, you are given an opportunity to put your life in perspective. It allows you to take the time to consider what is important to you.
Meditation takes you off the treadmill of life so you can walk among the flowers of life. Meditation slows down the speed of time— one-moment-at-a-time!
You begin to live today as if it is the last day of your life. Your last day to love, to feel, to sing, to laugh, to cry, and to touch, taste, smell, hear, and see!
As a human being, you need to risk walking on this inner journey — the blossoming of human potentiality — the process of becoming more fully human. You will sometimes feel exquisite inner love and joy. You will sometimes feel unbearable emotional pain because you love too much. All our emotions tell us that we are alive!
Sometimes there is a price to pay for our willingness to be vulnerable. A price you will learn to gladly pay! Your journey is about living life more fully and completely.
It is imperative to honestly address all your emotions and, if necessary, to find support. Your greatest support comes from 1) the love and awareness of your inner Self, 2) walking on a spiritual path with like-minded individuals (spouse; relatives; friends; a loving support group); and, 3) embracing the love and Light of the Spirit within.
Beginning today, capture the hope and inner essence of living as a positive, loving person.
Clarifying Questions:
What are your feelings and thoughts about meditation connecting you with a universal, loving Higher Power? Do you agree that the loving Spirit within connects with, and is drawn to a humble, peaceful, and loving inner Self?
Remember to learn, grow, share, and love together.
Day 52
Dr. Gockley’s Eight Insightful Visions,
Spiritual Epiphanies –
sudden startling Spiritual understandings
Self-affirmations:
I am making a commitment to meditate every day! I want to connect with the Spirit within.
I am aware that I have a unique personality (enneagram), special talents and skills, and distinctive life knowledge that can become manifested in my life purposes and my life directions. I am living my life with joy and thanksgiving. I am free to be me.
Inspirational Reading:
I experience, from time-to-time, what I call spiritual epiphanies — sudden startling spiritual understandings. I want to express my personal thoughts regarding the notion of experiencing heart-felt, passionate insightful visions.
I am not claiming to be anything special other than I have dedicated my entire personal and professional life searching for a pathway leading to better understanding my inner Self and the Spirit within. I felt inwardly driven to find an inner path, an inner process, for attaining a sense of self-awareness, emotional wellness, character development, value-creation, inner goodness, and spiritual wholeness. My visions deal with the spiritual, with my non-physical inner world.
The visions I encounter could be generated from my skills and intellect; my personality (enneagram – type #5 person with type #4 wing); and, my theoretical and theological (spiritual / religious) understandings. In combination, my distinctive life experiences sometimes generate personal and meaningful visions.
I wonder, however, after experiencing these marvelous visions, if it was my cognitive awareness and knowledge, combined with my own God-loving, inner spiritual energy that contributed to these astonishing spiritual epiphanies. Truthfully, my epiphanies often seem to be beyond my cognitive capacity.
I wonder if the loving, living, and glorious Spirit within touches my life and guides my emotions and thoughts, giving me remarkable, awe-inspiring visions!
Was I spiritually guided? You will discover for yourself the inner process for becoming emotionally healthy and spiritually whole leads to total wellness.
You will experience many moments living a life filled with inner love and inner goodness; a willingness to listen to your emotionally healthy, loving, spiritually-guided, positive inner voice; and, an openness to listen to, and be touched by God’s most profound callings.
It just happens!
Day 56
Five Spiritual Gifts
Meditation:
Intrapersonal reflections are thoughts I am saying to my inner Self.
I imagine that most individuals have, to some degree, beliefs about God. I am in the process of articulating my beliefs about the Spirit within. One of my most important questions is, “What are God’s expectations for me?”
This Jesus-centered, God-loving section presents Five Spiritual Gifts that can serve as a foundation as I explore my beliefs about God. Five Spiritual Gifts give clarity to, and enhance my spiritual journey.
Inspirational Reading
These are the Five Spiritual Gifts:
-
God is love
-
Love God with all your heart
-
Love all your neighbors
-
Treat others the way you want to be treated
-
Believe!
These five gifts are a spiritual foundation.
As I said, I experience, from time-to-time, what I call a heartfelt, inner-driven spiritual epiphany, a sudden startling spiritual understanding. I immediately got out of bed in the early morning hours and wrote down a vision of these five spiritual gifts. My vision was clear and profound. I realized the simplicity and significance of these spiritual gifts.
Clarifying Questions:
What do you think about Five Spiritual Gifts?
Day 66
5th Spiritual Message of Jesus
You are the light of the world
Meditation:
I am spiritually connected to the Spirit within. I am filled with inner goodness, love, and wonder. I am a shining light for all to see. People see it in my smile, in my accepting and loving demeanor, in my gentle and unassuming attitude, and in my acceptance and affirmation of my neighbors. I am alive! I am whole! I am a good person. I live The Cornerstones of Love: decency, integrity, dignity, and civility!
Matthew 5: 14; 16 — You are the light of the world
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid … Let your light so shine before (men and women), that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (RSV)
“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you a light-bearer, you don’t light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, you put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (The Message)
Interpretation:
Let others see your good works. Let the love, glory, and Light of God shine from your entire being for all to see. Celebrate your love for God and neighbors.
You have been given the privilege of living here on earth. Express gratitude, respect, and love for all God’s inhabitants.
Begin today celebrating who you are becoming as an emotionally healthy, loving person. This is the moment when you can let others know you are a loving Light for others to experience. Your reflections of Light are love for yourself, God, and all your neighbors; and, the love and healing Spirit within.
You are expressing your tapestry of inner goodness. You are free, open, and ready to express your loving Gentle Giraffe within.
Do you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? For God’s temple is holy, and that temple is you.” (1 Corinthians 3:16)
Yes, you are a Light in the world!
What do you think of the theme, “You are the Light of the world?”
Day 89
Dr. Gockley’s Final Thoughts – The Spiritual
After reading these love-centered, God-loving sections and thoughtfully writing about your inner Self, about the love of God, and about the incredible wisdom and life-enhancing knowledge found in Jesus’ messages, you are being emotionally and spiritually guided to live a more joyous and wholesome life. Love provides irrefutable proof that you are, indeed, a miracle — a one-of-a-kind, glorious, and dedicated follower of Jesus.
You are touching the amazing wonder and promise of you. Just think about the beautiful and breathtaking goals you are setting for yourself — your inner Self — your inner Spirit.
You are internalizing that this is the moment in your life when you will not let anyone take the love of God nor your marvelous inner journey to the heart away from you. Love trumps hate, prejudice, dishonesty, and fear-based rhetoric. Love trumps the temptations and traps of the secular world and exposes those who serve as false prophets.
I can only imagine the inner beauty you feel as you capture the awe and glory of God and the wonder of living a love-centered, God-loving life. You might feel as if you want to shout from the mountain top, “I am a miracle. I have the Spirit and love of God within me. I am a gift of life that is holy and undeserving of being lost.”
You will, of course, refrain from shouting from the mountain top because so many individuals you love and care for do not comprehend what it means to be filled with the love and Spirit of God. You will serve as a model of calm, emulating a loving, joyous, and sensitive presence. You will simply and graciously let your inner light shine.
In 1968 I read 60 books on human understanding and human potential in preparation for graduate school at the University of Rochester, located in Rochester, New York.
One quote became one of my life missions:
The fullest possible flowering of human potentiality is the business of education.
It is our reason for being.
Whatever we decide is the nature of the fully-functioning, self-actualized
individual must become, at once, the goal of education (19).
You are learning an indispensable understanding and appreciation of the genuine Laws of Humanity. You are learning how to love yourself, and, in turn, love all your neighbors and a loving God; and, how to treat others the way you want to be treated.
